Hitting the Fan, part two
Monday July 19th @ 7:50 PM - The Matthews' Farm
Bart rushes to answer the phone, thinking that it might be Will.
When
he picks up the phone, it is Will. When he can't figure out what was being
said Bart says, "Slow down, slow down, I can't tell what you're saying."
"Bart, Oh Bart, get over here, get Zack or your dad.", he then hears this
heartwrenching sob. ""They've taken my mom to the hospital. ... My dad hit
her ... and she hit her head. " He hears Will sobbing, "Please, I've got to
get to the hospital. ... Help me!"
Bart, runs down the stairs, yelling, "Mom! Dad! Zack! ... Dad!
Mom!
Zack! .. Hurry it's an emergency, PLEASE!" His dad is the first to get to
him. "Take it easy Bart, take it easy. What's this emergency?" By this time
both his mom and Zack were there also. Bart is trying not to cry, "Will just
called, he needs us! ... His dad hit his mom! ... And they took his mom to
the hospital, then all I heard ... was him crying." Bart's dad turns to
Zack, "You take Bart and your mom there now!" "I'll be right there, I have
to
make a call." Not stopping for anything, they all hurry to Zack's pickup and
jump in. Zack is on the road speeding towards the Sommers Farm moments
later.
@ 8:00 PM - The Sommers Farm
Zack comes to a screeching halt at the front porch. When they
were
driving up they could see the town's two police cars with flashing red and
blue lights spinning in the night. Bart's mom in an emotionless voice, "Oh
my god ..." When they get out of the car, they see Will's dad in handcuffs
and the police reciting those words ingrained into the modern way of things
"You have the right to remain silent, any ..." Bart runs into the house, and
finds Will holding his sister Jenny. She's has tears running down her
cheeks, quietly crying. Bart's mom arrives and gathers Jenny into her arms,
trying to console her.
Will grabs onto Bart, crushing him. Bart feels Will's whole body
shaking racked with silent sobs. Bart leads him outside, telling him to take
a deep breath, try to calm down. Will starts repeating over and over again,
"It's all my fault, it's all my fault, I should have kept my mouth shut,
it'sallmyfaultit'sallmyfault, I'm such a fucking idiot." "Slow down, you got
to try and calm down, does Ted know?" Will shakes his head, "N .. No. Can
can ... you call him." "I'll have Zack do it. ... Zack can you come out
here." Zack gets there quickly, "Yeah, want do you need." Will tries to
talk, but nothing comes out. Bart looks at Zack, "Can you call Ted?' "Sure,
I've still got his number in my wallet. ... I'll ...do it." With that Zack
rushes into the house to find his mom.
Zack finds her rocking Jenny in her arms, "Mom, Will wants
me to call
Ted. ... What should I tell him?" She looks at him and says, "Tell him is
mother was badly hurt and has been taken to the hospital in Cheyenne, tell
him I talked to the paramedics who were still here, and they think it might
be a good idea, that he come home as soon as he can. There was some serious
damage. But don't tell him about his father yet, he'll have enough on his
mind without that."
"Gary, here." "Gary, this is Zack. I really
need to talk to Ted!"
