Meeting by the Creek
Saturday July 10th @ 1:30 PM
Bart didn't know how it happened, but everyone was there sitting by
the creek, Zack, Shelley, Todd, Will and himself. Bart figures he
started it all when he forwarded Steve's e-mail to both Todd and Ted.
He, also, had to call Will this morning to let him know that they
wouldn't be going fishing, then later again, to let him in on Zack's
adventures. Todd showed the e-mail to Shelley, which ended up with the
two of them driving over. Shelley made such a big deal about it, Zack
just wanted to get away from the house, so the creek it was.
It was one of those beautiful days, when the high was only 75
degrees and the day was mostly sunny. The sun made their part of the
creek seem bright and green with the sound of the leaves in the tree
just adding to the whole effect. A really spectacular day.
Zack's talking, "My dad was no problem, all he said, when he saw me,
was tell me to take better care of myself. My mom nearly had a shit fit.
It didn't help that I wouldn't tell them how I got my black eye, just
that it was personal. She said that if it wasn't for the fact that I had
four people counting on me to drive them next Friday, she would have
grounded me then and there. As it is, she says when I come back from KC,
I'm gonna hafta give her my car keys for a week. She was pissed!"
Shelley asked if anyone had heard anything through the rumor mills
about the incident. Will said, " Nope, my little sister, was in town
this morning with my ma, and she said there wasn't anything about
anything. ... In case, you don't know, Bart and I found out that Jenny
figured out about us and is cool with it and with Ted. She's sort of
convinced herself she's our own private little Mata Hari, spying out any
news and shit."
Zack interjected, "Shit! Max and Nozone, probably are keepin' a lid
on it, at least for now. Don't want anyone to know it was two on one,
and I still whopped the asses. Just as long as they don't say anything
til after Friday morning."
"Lucky, school's out for the summer. Woulda had real problems
then." Bart added.
TK, who sat there takin' it all in, suddenly asked, "Do you think we
should say anything to Steve about us? I read that e-mail from him, and
thought he would feel better if he knew that there were others he could
turn to. All I know, after I found out you all ... were ... out there
for me ... I felt I could conquer the world. ... Steve must be very
lonely."
Will replied, "I vote yeah, but wait till we get back from Ted's
party. Enough, shit has happened lately and I don't want add anything
for now. It won't hurt to wait a week. ... besides, he knows that Zack
is in his corner for now. I just don't want anything to fuck up next
weekend."
After a pause, in which no one brings up any objections to Will's
idea, Zack says, "Okay, so the plan is, Thursday night, we pack my
parent's van with all our shit Will, you and Bart are gonna have to pack
a tent and sleeping bag, and whatever other crap you would normally
take camping. Will, you ARE gonna see about sleeping over here that
night?" Will looks at him and nods. Zack turns to Todd, "TK, do you have
your own tent? ... It's just that ... ", for the first time in longer
than Bart can remember Zack was blushing, " ... Shelley ... and ... I
want to have our ... own tent."
Bart looked at Will and they got these big shit eating grins on
their faces. Todd said, trying not to laugh, "Don't worry. I'll use the
tent Will and Bart are taking along. They won't be using it, and it'll
seem that I'll be staying with you two, and acting like your ...
'chaperone'. It's a perfect cover."
Zack then continued, "That's cool. then I pick up everyone by 6 in
the morning and we're fucking out of here. That'll get us there early
enough to set up camp, and then get the three of you to Ted's party."
It was almost like some elaborate prank they were playing on
everybody. The only thing was if they screwed up a lot of people could
get hurt. Sort of a five corner game of raw egg toss. As long as they
kept their stories straight, they shouldn't have any problems.
They all agreed to keep an ear open for any news concerning, Zack.
Slowly, the topics started to range over music and movies, video games
and tv. They all sat and shot the shit for a long time. It WAS a
beautiful day.
