Will's Mom

Tuesday July 13th @ 11:30 AM

Angie Sommers spent the day thinking about her sons, Ted and Will.
She couldn't let it go on any longer. Her husband went down to Russell
to take care of some business and he'd be gone for the day. She went to
the  back door and called out, "Will!, Will can you come here?"
"Aw mom, can't it wait, I'm sort of busy." Will yelled back.
She replied, "No, Come here now."
Angie sat at the table with a look of grim determination on her
face. When Will entered, she motioned him to sit down. Will was suddenly
apprehensive. "Will, you haven't fooled me with all this talk of going
to this crazy blues festival in KC. You can't lie to save your life.
You're going there to see Ted aren't you?"
Will doesn't know what to say. "Mom please. ..."
"You may have your dad confused, but he never did pay much
attention to birthday's and the like, unless I told him. And right now
he won't even talk about Ted. But this Friday's Ted's birthday. You and
I both know it. You've somehow got all these people to help you get
there."
"But mom, ..." he starts tearing up.
"Hush now. I want  you to do me a favor. I bought a card for Ted
and I want you to take it to him. I've put in about two hundred dollars
in cash, as I can't send him a check, you're dad would find out."  Her
voice starts catching in her throat. "Please ... please tell him how
very much I ... miss him." The tears  are now working their way down her
cheeks.
"Mom, please don't cry. I can't stand to see you cry. ..." Will now
has his own tears streaming down his face. "Mommy, please don't cry."
Will's mom tries to get control of herself. She wipes her eyes and
then reaches over and wipes Will's eyes as well. "Word of this must
never reach your dad. If Ted would have come to me, instead of the both
of us, I could have warned him." It still rang in her ears when her
husband said to Ted, "You're no son of mine." She has had enough, Ted
was and always would be her son.
She now looked at her second boy, she corrected herself he was a
not really a boy any longer. "Will, if you want to come and talk to me
about anything, anything at all, please do. I don't think I could stand
to lose you, too. I love you more than you'll ever know."
Will still has tears running down his cheeks. "Mom, don't worry
about Ted. I've been in  touch and talked to him a couple weeks ago. ...
I'll give him the card. ... Mom, I just want you to know that I love you
back."
His mom then says, "I want you to thank all your friends for
working so hard to get you there. I want to especially thank Bart. I
know that Bart  probably has a lot to do with all this, and I know he's
your ... your ... best friend."
Angie Sommers gets up after a while and starts supper.
