Pay Phone

Friday, June 25, 1999 - 3:21 PM.
The phone is ringing.
"Talibah's Books, how may we help you?"
"Can I speak to Gary Snow please?"
"Speaking, can I do anything for you?"
A muffled giggling is heard, then "Gary, this is Will, Ted's brother,
Bart's with me."
"Will, this is great. Did you get my message?"
"Yeah, that's why we called. How's Ted? How's he doing in school?
How..."
"Slow down kid. One at a time, Ted is just fine. He's doing great in
school, you know what he's like. Anyway, what about the party? Are you
guys going to make?"
"We're planning on it. Just a couple of details to work out."
"What details? Maybe I can help."
"Oh little ones, like what do we tell our parents, how do we get there,
and all that shit, little ones. No matter what, we will be there. Bart
thinks that we could pretend to go camping or somethin like that. Just a
second, Bart want's to say hello."
"Gary, this is Bart, Did Ted tell you about Zack and everything?"
"Yeah, he had me read the e-mail. How's that working out?"
"Sometimes, really scary. Zack's been on his best behavior though. In a
way, that's sorta why we wanted to talk to you. Zack doesn't know it
yet, but I think I can get him to drive us to your place. We figure if
we tell our parent's we're going camping they'll say yes. But I want
Zack to back us up. If he says he's going too, it'll be easier - God
knows why, but Will's mom and dad think Zack is just so fucking cool."
"Sounds like a plan. Problems?"
"We're not sure what to do with him, once we get there. He still don't
know about Will, an we'd like to keep it that way."
A pause, in the background Gary can make out voices - "My turn now."
"Relax I'm almost done." "I wanna say somethin."
"Gary? It's Will gain. Should we bring sleeping bags and pillows and
shit like that?"
"Nah, I was figuring you two could bunk in my room."
"REALLY, " "Bart you ain't gonna believe this but WE're gonna stay in
Gary's room, Shit! How fuckin cool!"
"Gary, you're not shittin us are you?"
"No, what's the big deal?"
"Nothin. Bart just thinks that'll great. We'll be coming no matter
what." <Groaning is heard in the background.> "Shut up Bart, you
got a
dirty mind."
"Gary, we gotta be going, we're almost out of change. Any way count on
us, we'll get there. You can e-mail us with the details."
"Will, this is great. I'll keep you posted. Take care, give Bart my
love."
