Ted & Gary Part 2
Sunday July 5th @ 1:15 AM
Gary couldn't sleep. He and Ted had come home from the fireworks so
they could have a moment alone with each other. It had been a hectic
day. They had gone with Sandi to watch the parade at 10:00 AM. All three
of them loved parades. Sitting on the curbs along the street, they
cheered the clowns and bands. Eating cotton candy and Tootsie Roll Pops,
they had a great time. Then after the parade was over, they headed over
to Jim and CJ's place. Jim and CJ had the downstairs flat of a duplex
near 51st and Baltimore. They were having a 'Birthday Barbecue' as CJ
called it. Simple stuff made on the grill, burgers, hot dogs, corn on
the cob, and for dessert a fresh fruit shish kabob. All that and a
couple of beers, made for a wonderful day that was topped off by the
fireworks.
When they got back, they plopped down on the coach, next to each
other. This won't do Gary thought, and he leaned over so he had his head
on Ted's shoulder then reached over and placed his hand on the back of
Ted's hand. He idly massaged his hand. They talked about the day, the
party, and the fireworks. Then Ted leaned over and gave Gary this kiss
that started out slow but built up a passion so raw and hot it was
unreal. Before long the were making love on the front room floor,
clothes scattered in all directions. Gary thought that the term 'making
love' was inadequate in so many ways, an antiseptic term with no life.
It doesn't have the emotions that describe the sharing and tenderness
that were there when they had sex.
Gary just layed there on his back with Ted's arm holding him,
while Ted slept. He was such a closet case when they first met. Then
that morning when he walked out of the shower room to find Ted standing
there. - He had had a restless night, with Ted's face invading every
dream. He decided then and there the best thing to do would be to stay
away from Ted. He'd buried deep inside himself those feelings. He didn't
want to be gay. In high school, he rerouted his drives into school work
and sports. No one knew whom he fantasized with in those private moments
when the need for sexual release was too strong to ignore.
'But there stood Ted, like some sort of erotic vision, his blond
hair sticking out in all directions, and those eyes that were black as
midnight searching his own. It was as if he could read Gary's soul. God
he wanted to get out of there and escape before Ted saw through Gary's
defenses and find out what he hidden so long. He couldn't take the pain
of rejection. He refused to allow himself to be ridiculed for whom he
desired. Then, just as Ted was heading into the shower room, he couldn't
help himself, "Tell you what. How about I meet you in the cafeteria,
okay?" And Ted said, "All right 20 minutes or so."
Looking at his wrist watch, he saw that it was all of 18 minutes
later when he got to the cafeteria, just throwing on clothes he found.
All the while he was rushing to get there. When he got there, Ted was
already there! His hair was not just damp but wet, and you could see
where his T-shirt clung to his chest soaking in the water that got past
his towel. Crazy thing once Ted saw him, he studiously looked away, at
least until Gary dropped his book bag on the table, and said, "Let's go
see what they have today."
Barely, 6:00 AM, they were the only ones in the whole place. Back
home on the farm, Ted was use to big breakfasts and moments ago, he felt
that he could eat a horse, now he didn't think he could get down a piece
of toast. He was worried about Gary. If he thought Ted was gay, he'd
tell him to get the fuck away from him. He saw what happened to gays
back in his home town. Ted was sure he and Gary could be friends without
any sex stuff getting in the way. Gary was a great guy, warm and funny.
Ted could keep himself in check. They both got some food they couldn't
remember eating.
They talked about their classes, and their upcoming day. They joked
and laughed enough to almost forget their fears. Ted even said to Gary,
"Do you want to meet after the library tonight?" But Gary said, "Sorry
man, there is this movie I want to see. It's based on an E. M. Forster
book, called 'Maurice', I haven't read it but these guys do a great job
on period pieces. They did 'Room with a View' and 'The Europeans', I
really like Forster besides." He then looked at Ted, "Would you wanna
come along? I was going to go alone, it's always more fun when you're
with someone." Ted was thinking that he really should go study, that he
didn't want to be around Gary, that he hated period piece movies, "Sure
sounds good. What time?"
Taken aback by Ted's answer, he had to think twice about the time.
"Ah .. It's ... at 7:30. Why don't we meet in the TV room in the dorm
about quarter to 7:00."
"OK. Well, I got ta be going. See you then." Ted grabbed his
backpack and walked out. Gary sat there thinking that this was a shitty
way to make a friend, by lying to him. He had read 'Maurice', and knew
what the movie was about. It was about being gay. This was the last
night it was showing. But he wanted to be around Ted, hopefully, he
wouldn't mind it.
Well, we'll see what happens tonite. Gary thought. He now had about
12 hours to avoid thinking about Ted.
To Be continued...
