Saturday Night - Bill & TK, part one
Saturday Aug 7th @ 7:30 PM -
The King House
Steve, Mark, Bill and TK are gathered in Steve and Mark's front
room. Mark and Steve are sitting next to each other on the coach, while
TK is in the old armchair with Bill sitting with his back to the chair
on the floor between TK's legs. They are all getting ready to watch a
video. TK is saying, "Yeah, I think you'll like this movie. I wanted to
make sure Bill saw it before ... before he heads back, so I called Will
and told him we wouldn't be coming over tonite." Steve responds, "The
name is 'Beautiful Thing'? And you say it's good?" "Yeah, it is. Any way
you'll see." With that he starts the VCR playing.
@ 9:10 PM
The credits finish rolling and TK starts to rewind the tape. Mark
is now laying on the coach with his head in Steve's lap. Steve is
lightly caressing Mark's cheek. Steve without really being aware of
speaking out loud, sighs, "I wish it were like that." Mark with an
ironic little laugh, "Can you imagine doing that down on Thompson
Street. But it's nice to think that there might be places you could do
that." Bill stands up and turns to TK. Pulling him up, "Let's go for a
walk." Steve says to TK, "If you don't need it right now, can you leave
the tape here for a couple of days? I think I'd like to watch it again?"
"Sure no problem. You really liked it?" Steve answers, "Yeah, I did'
Mark adds, "I did too." Mark looks up at Steve whispers something, then
says, "I think we're gonna call it a night. ... I think I'm getting an
ear ache." He grinds the side of his head into Steve's lap. Steve turns
red, but takes his hand and starts massaging Mark's ear.
Bill and TK close the door as they leave the apartment. They take
the stairs down slowly. When they get to the first floor porch, TK opens
the screen door a little, and sticking his head in, "Grams, Ma, Bill and
I are going for a walk." Grams hears him and answers, "Not too late.
Might have rain later." "Don't worry, we're not goin anyplace, jus want
some air."
The night is breezy, and dark. The stars easily shone down. By
chance, they ended up at the gazebo. They both knew why they weren't
talking, in little over 36 hours Bill would be heading back to Topeka.
Their bare legs were touching, TK turned to Bill, in a low voice, he
asks
a one word question, "Practice?" Bill has time only for a quick nod of
the head, when TK wraps his arms around Bill's chest and with a passion
neither of them had known, TK ground his lips into Bill's, shoving his
tongue deep into Bill's mouth. Soon they were clinging to each other
with a desperation only those new to love feel.
Bill takes TK 's head in his hands and breaking off the kiss, his
breathing is ragged, "God, TK, I love you." And before TK can say a
word, Bill's lips descend on to TK's, burning into his memory a need so
solid that he can taste it. Bill still has his hands in TK's hair,
holding their faces locked together.
In the dark night, Shelley can barely make out two figures out in
the shadow of the gazebo, Zack nudges her and motions her in another
direction. But Shelley, shakes her head, and calls out, "TK, Bill is
that you?" TK breaks off their kiss and says, "Yeah! what do you want?"
not bothering to hide the irritation in his voice. Finally close enough
to see them in the shadows, Shelly says, "Sorry. You don't have to take
my head off. How was I to know that ... that you ... How's I to know/"
Bill takes a deep breath and says, "That's ok. We're just about to go."
He whispers into TK's ear, "Let's get out of here. ..." Shelley comes
back, "I really am sorry, TK." "That's alright. We're going for a walk.
Why don't you two STAY HERE."
TK turns to Bill and says, "Stay here I'll be right
back." He takes
off jogging toward the garage. Returning in a couple minutes, he's now
carrying a blanket, "OK, ready now." Turning to his sister, "Shell,
we're gonna go watch for shooting stars. The gazebo is all yours."
