Going back to the King House Part 1
Steve was driving back to Algo Hermoso with TK. Virg had
decided
to ride back with Betty after they got to talk to some of the others.
TK, on the other hand, having briefly visited with Mrs. Sommers, figured
he'd get out of the way when Steve said he was heading back. Everybody
was in good spirits for now, after five days of worrying.
Steve asks TK, "So what's with this gay conspiracy? How come
nobody
told me?" TK replies, "Well, it's a little difficult to explain."
"That's OK, we have time." TK in turn asks, "How much do you know?"
Steve says, "Just pretty much what you said at back at the hospital.
You, WIll, Bart, Will's brother, Ted, and I guess you'd call him Ted's
boyfriend are all gay. From the way they all acted, it's obvious that
Bart and Will are an item, and so are Ted and ..." TK fills in the
blank, "Gary." Steve continues, "yeah, Gary."
TK turns in his seat towards Steve, " Well, all that's
right. ...
Shit, might as well go back to the beginning. ... Last October, Ted,
lives in KC by the way, told his parents about him and Gary. With them
two, it's more than boyfriends, more like married." "What do mean, it's
not legal is it?" "No, it's not, but they went thru all the legal shit
they could so that they would have most of the rights of a married
couple. ... Well, anyway, Ted's old man didn't take kindly to the idea,
and kicked him out with that whole don't darken my doorstep bullshit. By
the way, ever hear about a movie called 'Beautiful Thing'?", "Yeah,
heard about it on web. Never saw though." "I'll have to let use our
copy. ... Well, the end result was that Will and Bart came out to each
other, seems that they had crushes on each other for years. Well, one
thing led to another, and it's to the point now, I have a tough time
figurin where one stops and the other starts."
Steve replies, "Seems like that to me. ... What I was
wondering
about was .... it's just that ... it looks like all of your parents all
know ... my family's more like Mr. Sommers. ... " Steve continues but
there seems to a catch in his voice, " ... I haven't talked to any of my
so-called family in almost 2 years." "Yeah, all of them know. ...
Anyway, Bart was getting these stories off of the internet about gay
stuff, and printing em so Will could read em. Zack found one of the
messages, and him and Bart had a big fight. ... But they were able to
patch that up and Bart told me, that they're even better friends than
before. Then about a month ago, when I hurt my ankle, Will got me to
admit that I was gay too."
"We call ourselves 'The Club' as a joke, there's even a
handshake
I'm going to have to teach you and Mark. With Shelley and Zack's help,
We were able to get Will to Ted's birthday party last weekend. It was a
great time!" Tk pauses, "but then we got home."
