Plans
Saturday Aug 7th @ 1:30 PM - Sommers Home
"Gary, you sure you don't mind?" "Trust me Ted, I
don't mind at
all." Ted grins at Gary, "It's just that, if you'd rather be alone? ..."
"Are you kidding? If they're along, it's almost like being by ourselves.
They are so wrapped up in each other most of the time, they'd never
notice a third world war. It'll be fun for all of us."
Ted and Gary are sitting on the front porch of the Sommers home
waiting for Will and Bart to get there. All four of them are going to
see Ted's mom in the hospital. But Will had gone over to Bart's early to
see about getting some software for Will's computer. They said that
they'd be back around 1:30. Ted straining his eyes, can just make out
their ten speeds coming down the road.
Ted looks at Gary, "I think between the two of us, we're
going to
have to make sure Will gets his drivers license. If I'll be spending
half of my week at school, someone is going to have to be able to
drive." "Well, he's old enough, why doesn't he have one already?" "My
old man, didn't want us to drive til we were 18." Gary continues
watching Will and Bart coming closer, "Ted, by the way, what's the
latest about him? " Ted's face hardens with a grim expression, he says
in a even voice, "The asshole is still in jail, but there's talk of his
old church taking up a collection to see if they can bail him out."
Will and Bart drive their bikes right up the ramp on to the
porch.
Ted yells, "What the hell do you think you're doing?" Bart and Will just
start laughing, Will says, "Just testing it out, ma's gonna be home in
two days got make sure its safe." Ted continues, "Well, it's about time
you got here. Stow your crap, we gotta get over to the hospital, don't
forget we're havin company tonite." Ted and Gary had invited Sandi, CJ,
Jim, Bill and TK over.
Actually, they invited Bill, but Bill came with TK, the two
were
inseparable. Gary reminded him that Bill was only going to be in town 2
more nights before heading back to Topeka. When you said that in front
of either Bill or TK, the long looks on their faces almost made you
want to laugh. Soon everyone was in the car and they were on their way.
Gary turns around in his seat to talk to Bart and Will. "Hey
you
guys, Ted and I were talkin' and we decided to see if you wanta come
with us over Labor Day." "SURE!!!" They yell at the same time. "Fuckin
A, this'll be a blast!" Gary says, "Yeah, Sandi says she made
reservations for us at one of those hotels, like a Embassy Suites or
something. It's got a kitchen, separate bedroom, and the couch that
turns into a bed, that'd be yours." Ted adds, "Bart, you'll have to ask
your mom and dad. So try to find out as soon as you can, its only 4
weeks away." The rest of the ride they talked about the trip until they
arrived at the hospital.
@ 1:30 PM - Cheyenne Memorial Hospital
Ted walks in the room first, "Hi mom! How you feeling?"
She answers, "Just fine. how's everybody today?"
Will answers this time, "We're all doin good. By
the way, Jenny
went with Bart's mom shopping for school clothes." "Yeah, my mom is
really into it. She says she always wanted a daughter ... and this is
the next best thing." Bart adds. They all take their turns giving her a
kiss on the cheek.
"So do you boys have any plans for tonite?" She
asks. Ted answers,
"Yeah, the people from KC are coming over for a barbecue. We got a deal
on some ribs, and Gary's gonna make his special sauce. I was wondering
if we could use a jar of your homemade applesauce? ..." They talked
about the meal, who liked what, what dishes to use, and all. It was
quiet and fun, because it reminded them all, that soon they would be all
be home together. Just before they were getting ready to leave, Ted
says, "Oh, I almost forgot. Some woman named Anita, called, she said she
heard you were in the hospital and said to say 'Hi!' and send her love."
